Ice Maker and Defrost Broke

My ice machine broke after less than year and now the defroster is not working and constantly leaking water on the floor. I've owned the refrigerator for less than five year. Was told it would cost over $600 to repair everything and I only paid about $1400 for the refrigerator. Rather than sink more money into this refrigerator, I'm going to buy another one but it won't be a KitchenAid, or Whirlpool or Frigidaire or Maytag. Was hoping to get 10 years out of this refrigerator but no such luck.

Like it but a big problem with ice

I like the refrigerator. Got it 6/2013 Starting 2/2016 we have had water on the floor that has leaked from the freezer compartment floor. Every few days we have to chip away the ice or we have puddles on the floor. Our last refrigerator was 28 years old. We were told when this was delivered that we would be lucky to get 8 years out of this one. We got 3 problem free years. My husband is 77 and wants to get rid of it. To much hassle to try to defrost it, take it apart, etc. We got it for the water dispenser inside. We are the neighborhood grandparents and at the time no one had a water dispensing refrigerator. We didn't want kids messing around with it.

The ice maker leaks and pools on the bottom of the freezer. Besides having to throw out food due to them getting wet and freezing over it has leaked onto my wood floors and ruined them. I always thought KitcheAid was top of the line. Not this frig.

3 service calls and it still buzzes loudly

In June 2014 I spent $8,000 on a whole set of new KitchenAid appliances, including this refrigerator. In November 2016 it started to buzz loudly. A technician came and leveled it. But that really did not solve the problem and it got a lot worse in February 2017. The technician took the unit apart, and found that the compressor coil is pressing up against the bottom of the freezer. He took some bit of rubber out of his toolkit and crammed it in that space. That solved the problem - but only temporarily. The buzzing started again and I am again calling for service. I bought an extended warranty that goes through 2018, so these service calls are free. But what happens when that runs out? Do I need to pay hundreds of dollars a year to resolve what seems clear to me is a design flaw?

Fridge ice maker doesn't work and water leaks and freezes on freezer floor then melts an ruined my wood floor,on 2nd microwave, my oven smoked the cord behind it could have burnt my new house down. Not happy at all.

Pro: It has all you need for a fridge Con: The freezer started to leak after 3 years. The phone line of their customer service will drop call and they will have to transfer you to another line, and then you have to explain the whole thing all over again. This could happen more then one time, which is very annoying.

We have had this refrigerator for 4 years it is so noisy you can't hear yourself think. The ice maker only lasted two years, the drain tube was blocked with ice, leaked water on our hardwood floors and ruined them. The technician that came out, said that this was a problem with this model and we had to pay $150.00 to have the drain tube replaced. We are never buying any Kitchenaid appliances or Whirlpool because they are both the same company.

I love how spacious this refrigerator is! It's very quiet as well. I had to remove one of the shelves to fit taller bottles. But even without that shelf there is plenty of shelf space in the fridge part. I wish the stainless steel was fingerprint proof. Overall, I am very pleased with this appliance.

Froze everything ruined a lot of food.

This refrigerator look good but rigt from the start we had problems! Fist the handle on the freezer door started chipping, like a bad powder coat job. We noticed everything on the top shelf was freezing and we just kept turning the fridge compartment up to over 45 degrees to keep things from freezing. Nonetheless we still experienced freezing issues. Then my fiance dropped a plastic bottle of ketchup on the crisper drawer and the clear part cracked about 6" long. We hadn't had it for a week at that point. My fiance had contacted our distributor and asked them to fix the problem, but call backs were far and few between. Finally after having it for close to 9 months they came out to repair the unit. They told us the drawer crack and handle chipping would have been covered had we contacted them in the first month. We did! They didn't call back or do anything about the issue. Now after they have come out and replaced the control board and thermal sensor and we have warm food and the display shows 8 degrees for the fridge compartment. Now I may have to throw out the food that is spoiling in my fridge! At least with frozen food we could still use the fridge most of the way! I am now ready to push this thing off of a cliff!

Let me tell you about what happens when your fridge breaks..

Bought in June 2012. Immediately needed to be serviced b/c freezer gasket was not installed correctly. No big deal. Right? Ahh... a sign of things to come. 9/2015: Stopped cooling completely. 2 weeks later a visit is made, a part is ordered and a part is installed by Kitchenaid service provider. 2 weeks without a fridge. 1/24: Stops cooling again. More assessment visits, more ordering of parts, more install... and after 7 visits from the service provider over the last 3 weeks time (replaced parts and it did cool for a day prior to leaking all the cooland out again, etc.) it is finally deemed "unrepairable" by Kitchenaid. You think? (3 weeks now + 2 weeks a few months ago without a fridge) So what happens next? Service provider now needs to submit a report. That will be reviewed by Kitchenaid (most likely take a few days) and then it goes to "Claims" where it will then be reviewed again prior to letting me know next steps. So I'm again looking at at least a week without a fridge while the red tape gets sorted out. Tip for Kitchenaid: Your extended service practice is A JOKE. If your customers don't work out of their home they may as well just trash your fridge b/c who is home the half dozen times that it takes to finally come to the conclusion this fridge was a lemon from the factory?

I mis the good days when products worked

problems and annoyances. I apprently only bought the name, and not a good product. The left hand door never closes all the way unless you slam it. Then the jars in the door jump around. The "duckbill" in the defrost drain line sealed itself shut after 18 months. Water backed up and pudddled on the hardwood floor for several days, and then it was several more days to get a repairman out. The dust grill in the front is pointless as it lets all the dust into the coils, and only the first row of coils can be vaccumed out. The water line for the cold water and ice maker, freezes up in the fridge compartment unless you store food over 45F Shall I go on ? I have not had trouble with the stainless rusting.

The freezer keeps freezing up and getting water on the floor. I have had it repaired 4 times and it still freezes up on the inside. Customer service told me that it does not matter how many times that something needs to be repaired. I am completely dissatisfied with the unit and the customer service.

Great starter french door model

We needed no more than a 20cu in a french door model because the door openings on our older home did not have enough doorway width to get a larger one in to our kitchen. This model fit so well, has ample interior room and still has ice maker and cold water even though it's not on the outside of the left door. At soom point we will enlarge our front door and kitchen doorway so we can buy a larger french door model in the future. We had a side by side by it was too narrow on both freezer and fridge sections so wide pans didn't fit. We love this beautiful stainless steel refrigerator and all it amenities, controls, features and etc. So happy we were able to buy this new refrigerator!...No regrets at all!!

Same as the other review, water leaks into the bottom of the freezer and forms ice. This happens several times a week, I'm guessing during the automatic defrost cycle. If you don't chip out the ice each time, it eventually starts to overflow the ice and leak out onto the floor. I'm glad to hear there is a fix now, I'll be calling on Monday.

Save yourself; avoid this refrigerator

At 3 years and two months, this refrigerator started getting ice on the plastic freezer floor. If the ice gets too high, water spills onto the wood floor. My son and a friend have the same model - larger capacity and have the same problem. It's a "known" issue. Do I really think we're the only 3 people this has happened to? Whirlpool will only pay for parts. I have to call their recommended service and pay $90 for the service call and diagnostics. I don't need diagnostics. All I need is that they bring the part and install it (in hopefully less then an hour) because I have to pay for labor. Of course, this lemon is discontinued.

Freezer started leaking water at 2 yrs old. Water fills lower part of freezer and then freezes. I have to remove the ice regularly at least once a week. It concerns me when I leave town and so I put towels on the floor so make sure my floors aren't ruined.

Fair Product with Water Filter Issues

The fridge looks beautiful and we like the freezer on the bottom. However, the water filter (which is expensive) was not working properly and we had to take it out. The repairman said that it might be faulty and the cause of our system icing over, so he suggested we remove the filter. The fridge works now but with no filter and a new filter was not covered under the Kithchenaid warranty apparently. I wrote to the company who made the filter and they said it was the responsibility of the manufacturer of the fridge. I think it is ridiculous that we should have a new appliance and need to replace an expensive filter immediately and not know if a new filter will work in the fridge or not. I also think the design of having to open the freezer and get ice out and then open the fridge to get out water is wasteful and the product is not very energy efficient.

I bought this last March. I didn't want the french doors but because of space I had to get one. I LOVE it! There is so much room for large platters etc. There is plenty of room in the freezer and when I need extra, I just remove the ice tray.

This has been a great refrigerator. There is a water dispenser on the inside - lefthand side of the fridge. It gives a warning beep if you forget to close the door properly. Lots of space in the freezer too. Great price for a cabinet depth model.

We bought this refrigerator because we had the older version in our kitchen previous to remodeling and I STILL love it. The water dispenser inside is great if you have kids too.

Counter Depth is great for short people!!!

I love the counter depth because I can reach to all the back spaces. I love the freezer on the bottom for that same reason. Showing the temperature so I can be sure all is cooled correctly is great too. A couple of draw backs are the space between the doors sweats - I can't figure out why in order to fix it. The freezer spacing is a little odd. I have to figure out how to stack to fit everything.

we purchased this when we remodeled our kitchen. our old refrigerator was noisy and not very efficient. we are so glad we did. When it arrived to be installed there we tow dings, one each on both doors. I called the retailer immediately and he contacted Kitchen Aid, and even thought the model was discontinued they replaced both doors.

Great Smaller-sized Refrigerator

I have been looking for a long time for a smaller refrigerator with upscale styling and features. I have a galley style kitchen and needed something that didn't fill the whole kitchen space when opened. This fits beautifully in the space, and holds so much more than I dreamed it would. Additionally, I love the fact that the ice-maker and water-dispenser are NOT on the door (neatly tucked inside).

The doors don't seem to shut very well. It can be left open thus causing issues. The freezer doesn't hold as much as it look like. Wish I knew this before I purchases.
